What distributors, hospitals, and clinics need to know before placing a bulk order with a Pakistani surgical instrument manufacturer — MOQs, documentation, Incoterms, and quality checks.
Written by the Lifecare Next Med team — manufacturers of orthopaedic, ophthalmology & dental surgical instruments in Daska, Pakistan.
Pakistan, and the Sialkot–Daska surgical instrument cluster in particular, has supplied hospitals and distributors worldwide for decades. We manufacture from within that cluster — our workshop sits at the UDWHO Cheema Hospital Complex near Canal Bridge, Daska — and the questions below are the ones we field most often from first-time buyers, in the order they usually come up.
Start with minimum order quantity. We set MOQs per instrument rather than per order, and they vary by discipline — a run of orthopaedic bone-holding forceps has different tooling economics than a set of fine ophthalmic knives and keratomes. Ask any manufacturer for a breakdown by SKU before you commit to a container size, not a single blanket MOQ.
Ask for material test reports and finish specification in writing. Surgical-grade stainless steel (commonly AISI 410 or 420 for cutting instruments, 304 for general-purpose holding instruments) should be stated per instrument, not just "surgical steel" as a blanket claim. This is standard practice for us and should be for any manufacturer you're evaluating.
Confirm export documentation up front. Commercial invoice, packing list, and certificate of origin are standard on every shipment we prepare; additional documents (health certificates, CE files) depend on your destination market's import requirements, so raise them early rather than at the shipping stage. We cover this in more detail case-by-case — request a quote and mention your destination country so we can flag anything extra before you order.
Agree on Incoterms before requesting a quote. EXW, FOB, and CIF are the common ones for this trade — the same unit price means very different landed costs depending on who arranges freight and insurance, so lock this down first, not after you've compared quotes from different suppliers.
If you're sourcing across more than one discipline, our orthopaedic and ophthalmology instrument guides go a level deeper into category-specific terminology worth knowing before you send your first RFQ.
